Hints & Tips
- Always shop around for prices.
- Try to get a fixed-price written quote before work begins.
- Make sure you ask a garage to get your consent before carrying out any work that exceeds your quote or estimate.
- Ask to inspect any replaced parts or have them returned to you.
- Ask for full details of work done (inc. materials used, new parts installed, labour charges and the total cost).
- Ask for a name and address to send a complaint if you are unhappy with the work.
If you find that you are unhappy with work carried out on your vehicle you may wish to raise a complaint.
- Raise it with the garage as soon as possible. Give them the chance to resolve the issue.
- If you are still unhappy, check to see if the garage belongs to a trade association. The garage may have to adhere to a code of practice, if so the trade associations may be able to help resolve the dispute.
- Failing the above suggestions you may need to take the matter to a Small Claims Court. Ask for details at your local Citizens Advice Bureau or Trading Standards Office.
